As we began the Friday night Bible study, the opening question asked us to think of a time when we "wished for ‘what was to come’ instead of ‘what was at that time.’" In light of the discovery of the buried children in the cemetery of a former residential school outside Kamloops, B.C., we didn’t have to look far. Every child matters to God. In Jesus Christ, there is no longer Jew or Gentile. However, the long walk continues toward the day when that will be known in full. Archbishop Linda Nicholls, Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, has expressed it well, restating the church’s resolve in this ongoing season of repentance and reconciliation. "At the heart of our faith is the life of Jesus who said, ‘Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of God belongs. Truly I tell you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will never enter it.’ And he took them up in his arms, laid his hands on them, and blessed them. (Mark 10"14b-16) The neglect of the dignity of children, whom Jesus welcomed and protected, calls for repentance in action. "We, as Anglicans, commit to working with Indigenous communities, leaders and elders to heal this legacy and honour the lives of the children who never went home." The Archbishop’s statement can be found here: https://www.anglican.ca/news/every-child-matters/30034121/ Revised Provincial Stay at Home Order On April 16, the Province announced a heightened stay-at-home order to combat the rising number of infections, effective Monday, April 19. The new order reduces attendance to 10 persons at church services. According to Bishop Asbil, that will likely remain the case until mid-July. We support the saftey guidelines and as has been the case since last March, the ordinary Christian obligation of Sunday attendance remains in abeyance. Church services are reduced to 10 persons with full safety guidelines and practices in place. Prayers are ongoing for the health of the community and an end to the pandemic.
