The Lord is Risen. He is Risen indeed. Happy Easter
ITEMS by Fr. Dean *A bad cold knocked out the editor on Sunday, but better late than never for the news because it was a great week at St. Paul’s. *On Friday morning, a lovely wedding for Pauline and Lascelles. Saturday morning marked the glorious homecoming for Lance Bloomfield and, fittingly, a day to pay tribute to the faithfulness and dedication of his wife and family. In both cases it was moving for me to watch the parish offering its full support, long before and long after each occasion. *On Saturday night was the African Sounds of Praise service, hosted by the three parishes of Nativity Malvern, St. George Yonge Street, and St. Paul L’Amoreaux. In all three congregations we have new friends from the African diaspora. For its own sake, an Easter festival of praise with an African accent was planned. But also, a chance for us to see and explore what opportunities the Lord may be opening, individually and together. It was a thrilling evening, with wonderful singing, dancing, testimonies and preaching. As a first effort, I thought it was realistic to expect about 90 people. Over 120 came, and together we experienced the joy of Africa and the hope for what’s to come. Specifically, at St. Paul’s this has already flowered in the West Indian/African Dance and Movement program - who performed in spectacular style on Saturday night - and the continuation of the monthly Immigrant Support Program renamed in loving memory of Timothy and Tervor Adzua seeking to build on their legacy of kindness and service to new immigrants. And together, the three congregations are committed to two more African Praise services in the other two churches with thoughts already turning about the formation of an African Diaspora Choir. We wait and see where the Lord will lead. *On Sunday, a happy morning as the parish welcomed the newly weds and marked a very special birthday. *And a glorious climax at the Cathedral for the ordination to the diaconate of Carol Shih, which can be viewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrvbecwSSJE Happily, she will be attending and participating at St. Paul’s at 9.15 a.m. and 11.15 a.m. this coming Sunday, May 7. *And once you’ve finished that video, here’s another one to enjoy - a well done recording of last weekend’s Easter Bajanai by our Tamil Congregation, : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NE7y3qDEygA With these notable events in the month to come: *Maytime Melodies, our annual springtime parish recital, this Saturday, May 6, at 6.30 pm. Admission by donation. All proceeds to the Outreach Program. *The visit of The Rev’d Carol Shih next Sunday, May 7. *Mother’s Day, May 14, Rajini Lyman preaching. *Praise on Steel City wide pan concert, Saturday May 20, at the Malvern Christian Assembly, 6705 Sheppard Avenue, East. Featuring eight bans and including Gemini Groove and the St. Paul’s Steel Band. Tickets: Seniors/children - $20. Adults - $35 pre-ordered or $40 at the door. *Saturday, May 27 - A Service Honoring Annette Brownlee and Supporting our New Friends - featuring the Salvation Army Brass of the Salvation Army Agincourt Community Church. Tickets: Adults: $15; Families: $25. Join us for a very special evening honoring Annette Brownlee and supporting our new friends, Sanaz and Aliezra, whose reunion in Canada we have co-sponsored. *Sunday, May 28 - Pentecost - with the Pans leading at 9.15 am and Annette preaching. Hope is in the air this Easter Season at St. Paul’s. ***** Easter Food Drive - Agincourt Community Services Monetary gifts are being received now and through the Feast of Pentecost, May 28, for the Agincourt Community Services Food Bank. We encourage everyone to give generously. Thank you, Annette The Rev’d Dr. Annette Brownlee is retiring at Wycliffe College this year and, with that change, will be stepping back at St. Paul’s as of Pentecost Sunday, May 28. She has served here since 2009 and will be greatly missed. Join us on the evening of Saturday, May 27, when we will honor Annette for her desdicated service at St. Paul’s. S.P.Y. - St. Paul’s Youth - Friday nights at 7 pm. Contact Sarah for more information: [email protected]. Thank you for your Faithful Gifts and Offerings - St. Paul’s is a strong parish and remained so throughout 2022 due to everyone’s faithful support at a time when never has it been more important. Gifts can be dropped off at the church or sent by mail. Kindly ensure that your name and envelope number is included. Or, members may wish to sign up for the Pre-Authorized Giving Program (contact the office). Members who use online banking can now make E-transfers (instructions here: www.stpl.ca/give.html). Gifts can also be made at our website through CanadaHelps: www.stpl.ca/give.html NOTE: Of the various means for online giving, we recommend The Pre-Authorized Giving Program. It is regular, matching the regular responsibilities of the parish, and once initiated all it takes is a phone call or quick e-mail note to increase, decrease, or cancel the donation. The monthly amount is withdrawn on the 20th of each month, and the cost to the church is 50 cents per transaction, irrespective of the amount of the gift. This makes the PAG the most economical of all methods of giving. Contact - The clergy of St. Paul’s are permitted once again to visit in homes. Don’t hesitate to call or write.
