Effective December, 2021, The Rev'd Canon Kim Beard has been appointed by Bishop Robertson as honorary priest at St. Paul’s, L’Amoreaux. Canon Beard is the recently retired priest of St. Paul on the Hill, Pickering. In making this request, four things were noted. First, he is well known at St. Paul’s. Over the years Canon Beard has developed a great ministry of short-term missions to places in need around the world. Not only has this become the source for connections and fellowship, the projects themselves have brought much-needed assistance where it was otherwise out of reach. For instance, the upcoming project is the construction of a girl's school in Tanzania, a place marked by both poverty and lack of opportunity for young women. For many of the projects, St. Paul's L'Amoreaux offered administrative help, members have joined the missions, and the parish has offered its support. Eleven of us were part of the mission to Kenya in 2007. While offering Canon Beard a base for him to continue this ministry, we would be delighted to do so. Secondly, Canon Beard is one of the most experienced and talented clergy in the diocese. While he anticipates that travel would keep him away a lot of the time, when at St. Paul’s we look forward to his service as a celebrant, preacher, teacher and pastor. Thirdly, Canon Beard is also very well connected here in Toronto due to the broad outreach of the mission projects, but also due to his role for many years as chaplain to the Empire Club speakers forum. Those connections would be of great benefit for our many responsibilities and the five distinct corporations located on our campus: the Church, the Cemetery, the Centre, the Terrrace and the new SPLC seniors community services. Finally, with the recent death of Fr. Gordon Byce, beloved priest and pastor and affiliated to St. Paul’s for over 55 years, the appointment of Canon Beard will be an encouragement all around. More Good News at St. Paul’s Centre About five weeks ago, several residents tested positive for Covid-19 and campus wide testing showed that 13 altogether were known to be infected. About five weeks ago, several residents tested positive for Covid-19 and campus wide testing showed that 13 altogether were known to be infected. These were the first known cases in the residence since the pandemic began. Two weeks ago, all known cases in the residence were cleared from quarantine and followup testing this past week revealed no new cases. The outbreak has ended. In addition, all residents over the age of 80 will be offered vaccinations this coming week. This will be the first mobile vaccination clinic in seniors' multi-unit housing conducted by the Scarborough Health Network. When asked why we were the first, SHN said that "they have found us to be very good to work with and very organized." Our thanks and congratulations again to Executive Director Diane Duncan, Property Manager Vanett Hart - who is our on-site clinic organizer - and to the whole team. The light at the end of the tunnel is starting to shine! 2020 Income Tax Receipts Completed and Sent St. Paul’s income tax receipts were completed last week and distributed. Those who so requested have already received theirs by email. Those who requested pick-ups may do so now. All other receipts were mailed and should have already arrived. Our thanks to Daisy Lucas and Ruby Chen for dedicated service in an unusual time. Considering Pre-Authorized Giving Never has the support - and regular support - of the parish been so important. In response, a growing number are now using the Pre-Authorized Giving program, now counting for nearly a quarter of our annual envelope target. It is easy, safe, cost effective (cheaper than mailing a cheque) and simple to adjust. If interested, contact the office or check the website for more information: www.stpl.ca/give.html. Thank you for keeping St. Paul’s strong and ready to go when the doors re-open - made possible by your faithful and regular support in this irregular time.
